1) What is the function of the CPU?
The CPU also known as a microprocessor or Central Processing Unit, a CPU is a complete engine which is used in order to fabricate a microchip.
2) What was the name for the first CPU?
The first CPU introduced was in the year of 1971 and this was called Intel 4004.
3) Describe how the speed of CPU's have changed, with the assistance of the graph?
With the assistance of the graph featured, you can see that the speed of the CPU's have changed dramatically in the past 30 years or so. In 1974 it was only about 2MHz in speed, but now the speed is around the amount of3.6 GHz. This basically shows the speed has only increased and developed through to the present. Leading to new advancements in technology, the speed has reached to an amazing 1 GHz meaning 1000 000 000 periods per second for a CPU.
4) What does MIPS measure?
MIPS represents Million Instructions Per Second, this measures the performance of a CPU. This can give people a general perception of the power of their CPU. Basically showing how many million instructions it can generate also complete per each second.
5) Research what is a dual core processor, what is multitasking and how do the two work together?
Dual core processors also considered as multi - core processors are single computing components with two or more independent processors which assist in helping to read executing instructions given out by computer programs. Multi tasking is the skill to execute more than one task at the same time. Multiprocessing and Multitasking are worlds offten used to describe this, although multiprocessing means that more than one CPU is in use, whilst multitasking means that only CPU is being used but switched from one software to another is in such a rapid speed that it gives the appearance of running the programs all at the exact same time.
